Obituary for Maria Basso

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of the Matriarch of our family, Maria Basso. She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Our Nonna Maria passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Molvena, Italy in 1926 but immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her two daughters in order to join her Husband, Antonio. She worked tirelessly at a Vancouver factory for over 30 years in order to help make a better life for her family. She was forever grateful for the many opportunities that were available to her in Canada. Nonna was a very gentle and quiet person, never wanting to be a bother to anyone. She loved her family immensely and was extremely proud of each and every one of them, always asking where they were and what they were doing. Nonna is predeceased by her Husband, Antonio in 1990 and by her Brother Pietro. She is survived by her Sisters Caterina, Elisetta and Brother Renzo in Italy. She is survived also by her two loving daughters Regina (Ottavio) and Loretta (Dale); 7 Grandchildren - Sandra (Sean), Michael (Natasha), Christina (Jeff), Jessica (Luca), Matthew, Michael (Teresa), and Christina. 10 Great-Grandchildren – Adam, Ella, Emily, Addison, Mikayla, Anthony, Matteo, Connor, Gianluca, and Audrey and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and France. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday April 21st, 2018, at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby. Entombment to follow at the Abbey Mausoleum, Ocean View Cemetery, Burnaby. Heartfelt gratitude to all the caring professionals at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
