Obituary for Alan Dee

Alan Dee passed away on April 1, 2018 surrounded by love with his wife, mother and brother at his side at Burnaby General Hospital, palliative care unit.

Born in Quebec City, January 13, 1957, as the son of an airforce member Alan lived with his family in many cities in Canada; spending his early adult life in Quebec before driving across the country in 1994 to settle in the Vancouver area.

Alan is survived by his wife, Janice, his mother Yolande, sister Lyne, brothers Eric and Karl. He is predeceased by his father Willie and brother Gary. Alan will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Sarah, Jesse, Jake, Eliza, Taylor, Mackenzie, Laura and Catherine as well as his great niece Brooklynn and
great nephew Jaxson.

Alan had many passions and lived life to the fullest. He had a successful personal chef business, spending hours pouring through cookbooks to find and try new recipes to delight his clients and friends – southern Asian and southern BBQ were among his favorites.

Alan taught himself how to play banjo as a teenager. Alan and his brothers loved to play music together and entertain the family. In recent years he became mildly obsessed with his ukulele. He would spend hours practicing chords to learn a new song.

Alan loved nature and the outdoors. He was in awe of the nature’s beauty and would often stop during hikes to remind himself and others to be mindful. He loved to watch sunsets and wait for the perfect end of day light to capture stunning photos.

Alan and Janice loved to travel and were fortunate to explore parts of Vietnam, Cambodia, South Africa, Mexico, Bahamas and beautiful Canada. Alan also had adventures across the USA, Nepal, India, France and overnight hiking trips in the Rockies and the West Coast Trail.

Service will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 11am
