ARMANNO, Anna
March 1, 1923-August 17, 2017
Anna passed away on August 17th in her 95th year. She was predeceased in 1990 by her beloved husband of 47 years, Roberto. Born in the Parasacchi near the town of Cervaro, Italy to Benedetto and Carolina Canale, she immigrated to Canada with two small daughters in the early 1950s to join Roberto who had come over the previous year. Mum was a plucky, modern woman with a sense of style and taste for adventure. She had enormous energy and worked in hotels and restaurants where her incomparable pies attracted a devoted clientele, and later in a variety store where she managed a department and befriended, seemingly, everyone in the Italian community. Mum was blessed with good health for most of her life and until her early nineties lived independently, with amazing vitality. She will be deeply missed by her loving family, daughters Lucy Borghesi (Sieg Grohs) and Antonietta “Toni” Armanno, grandchildren Robert (Diane) Borghesi and Lori (Eric) Jensen, great-grandchildren Taylor, Max, Alex and Chelsea, and two great-great grandchildren, Cristiano and Isabella. Also mourning her loss are her dear brother and sister, John Canale (Filomena) and Maria Coletta, her brother-in-law Guido (Antonietta) as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends, especially Nick Valerio, and family in Italy, France and the US. Viewing will take place between 6 pm and 8 pm, August 23rd, at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel (4276 Hastings St., Burnaby). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, August 24th, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (555 Slocan St., Vancouver). Following the mass, Anna will be laid to rest at Ocean View Burial Park (4000 Imperial Ave., Burnaby). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation (686 W. Broadway), or a charity of your choice.
