Obituary for Francesco "Frank" Battista

Peacefully and in the presence of his family, Francesco Battista passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the age of 89. Throughout his life Francesco was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Maria, son Frank, daughters Carmelina and Nancy, by his two sisters Pasqualina and Adelina, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Francesco was born in Civitanova Del Sannio, Italy on July 10, 1927 and he immigrated to Canada in 1952, arriving in Toronto and then shortly after making his way out west working with the CPR in Boston Bar and North Bend here in B.C. In 1955, Francesco moved to Vancouver when his future wife immigrated to Canada and they married shortly after her arrival that year. Francesco then worked with the Hudson’s Bay Company for 33 years until he retired in 1987 at the age of 60. After he enjoyed 28 healthy and peaceful years of retirement - much of his time spent in his many gardens growing his tomatoes, vegetables and fruit trees. He will be dearly missed by us all and will forever be in our hearts. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Parish, 1612 East 18th Ave., Vancouver, BC. Entombment will follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com
