Obituary for Neil MacCorquodale Lamont
After battling acute leukemia for 18 months, Neil passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2016 with his family at his side. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Joy, daughter Anne (Dean), son Ian and grandsons Angus and Cameron. In the UK he leaves a brother, sister, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Neil was born November 26, 1931 in Glasgow, Scotland but his roots were in North Uist and Skye. He went to sea in 1948 and traveled the world with the British Merchant Navy. He met Joy on a voyage aboard Donaldson Line's SS Laurentia. They married in Shetland in 1960 before continuing the adventure and immigrating to Canada. They settled in Vancouver where Neil attended UBC and became a teacher. He taught in Vancouver for over 25 years at Sir Wilfred Grenfell and Queen Mary Elementary before retiring to his Burnaby garden in 1991. He was an active member of the Vancouver Gaelic Society, always enjoying a good ceilidh. Neil delighted in spending time gardening and with his family, and always looked forward to reading to his grandsons Angus and Cameron. Memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday July 30 at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, a donation to BC Children's Hospital, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice is requested.
