Obituary for Maria Finamore

Finamore, (nee Gabriele) Maria

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Maria on July 14, 2016 at the age of 61. Maria was a devoted wife of 40 years to Renato, loving mother to Domenico (Janet) and delighted new grandmother to Antonio. Cherished daughter to Antonietta and Felice Gabriele (predeceased 2009) and proud sister to her brother Angelo and partner Glenda. Maria was born on December 18, 1954 in Bagnoli Del Trigno Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1958. Maria was raised in Vancouver and attended UBC graduating as a pharmacist in 1977. Maria's long and dedicated service to her profession and her commitment to her career with London Drugs continued for over 42 years as she truly loved her customers, colleagues, and her work. She was an educator, a mentor and volunteered in many capacities within her profession. Maria was blessed with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, niece and friends. In particular Renato’s sister, Genesia and brother, Annibale (Ivana) and Maria’s cousin, Achille who all recently travelled from Italy to be with Maria.
Maria had two passions in her life, her family and her profession. Maria will be affectionately remembered and missed by everyone who’s heart she touched.
Visitation will be on Tuesday July 19, 2016 from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm at Bell Funeral Chapel 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby BC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby BC on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:30 am. Entombment at Ocean View Burial Park in the South Mausoleum.

To honour Maria's career accomplishments, her family along with friends and colleagues have established the Maria Gabriele Finamore Award in Community Pharmacy.

Your contributions will help inspire pharmacy students to pursue professional and educational excellence and leadership, a legacy befitting of Maria’s contributions to her profession.
